Stage by Stage

Working with you on whatever building project you have in mind it could not be made easier with No1Builders. Here is a step by step guild just so you know what to expect during the process from concept to completion.

1. After contacting the company, a Company representative will appoint a convenient time to call to discuss the proposed project.
2. A detailed quotation will be emailed and posted in hardcopy to you home within three days.
3. On deciding to proceed with the project, a convenient time would be appointed to complete a comprehensive survey of your requirements with your project manager, contract signed and booking deposit paid.
4. Your booking deposit will hold what's called a 'slot date'. This is the day when you job will commence.
5. There will be a weekly payment for what works are complete.
6. Total site clearance and professional cleaning of glass.
7. Our reccommended architect will then survey the works and issue a certificate of substantial compliance with building regulations and exemption of planning.

Where a planning permission may be required our recommended architect will prepare plans to meet with your requirements for submission to your local authority to obtain planning permission.

There is major disruption when you change and alter you kitchen. You must consider if you run this project your self which requires hiring up to 6 or more different trades people, carpenter, plumber, electrician, plasterer, tiler, decorator and managing them against your expectations for how you want the finished kitchen to function and look. You will have to project manage the kitchen installation yourself. This is the cheaper option.

You take on Renovate, first class kitchen installers, and have everything done for you and only have to deal with one person who takes responsibility for all works, communication changes and the finished product. This option will cost considerably more You need to know this before you start.

What are we going to find ?
When taking out an existing kitchen installation, you are going to find all the faults that moisture, age and use have created and often what wasn't done properly in the first place. Many kitchens have poor electrics and plumbing behind work surfaces, crumbling walls and these things are only apparent when the old kitchen is removed. You will often have to make allowances for this or engage a builder who can make allowances so you have few if any surprises, both structurally and financially throughout your new kitchen installation project.

PAINTING AND DECORATING

Internal Painting
we offer an extremely high standard of painting, including ceiling, walls, masonry, metalwork and woodwork. A high quality finish is achieved by adhering to correct painting preparation. Depending on the clients requirements this could include burning off of old paint, caulking, filling and sanding of any holes or blemishes to give a perfect finish ready for undercoating. Once the correct undercoat has been applied then a fantastic finish can be achieved.

External Painting
Whether you wish to give the outside of your house a facelift, spruce up the waney lap fencing or rejuvenate a tired garage door then we can help and will make a difference. Preparation is the key to getting great results finished off with an external weather-proof paint, stain, varnish or wood preserve to give long-lasting results which will look good for years to come.

Wallpapering
WE offer a full wallpapering service which includes stripping of all old wallpaper, filling any holes or blemishes on the wall to give a good, clean surface. Lining paper can then be applied (if required) followed by the finishing wallpaper of you choice. If you choose an anaglyptic or blown vinyl type of wallpaper then we can then emulsion this in your chosen colour. Some clients may prefer to strip their old wallpaper themselves to save on the budget, if you wish to do this then it is fine with us.

OUR GUIDE TO STRIPPING WALLPAPER
Stripping wallpaper can be one of the easiest jobs that a decorator has to do or one of the most tedious. This very much depends on the paper you are trying to strip. If the paper has been pasted directly onto a freshly plastered wall only last year then it may simply be a case of picking at the bottom corner and peeling off the complete sheet from floor to ceiling, if it is fantastic, if it isn’t than it may be that the wallpapering has been painted and wallpapered over many times before giving a thicker and more difficult paper that has to be removed. Some decorators may recommend papering over the existing surface without stripping it. This approach very much depends on the existing finish and the final finish that you wish to achieve. If this is the case then No1 Builder decorators will be more than willing to offer the best decorating advice.

Second, the correct painting and decorating tools
If it is a case of pick at a corner and peel the paper off the the only tool you need will be your fingers, if however it is more difficult than this you will need something a bit more powerful. Now, a lot of non-decorators may advise using warm water, washing up liquid, a sponge and a scraper. The idea being your score the wallpaper with your scraper, splash soapy warm water all over it and than waiting before attacking it with your scraper. This decorating method does work but has quite a few downfalls. Firstly it’s messy and can leave your carpets very soggy, secondly it tends to leave behind little patches of paper which will have to be removed by us anyway and thirdly lots of people who aren’t experienced decorators tend to scratch, dent and damage the surface of the wall, making it more difficult to achieve the perfect decorating surface to start wallpapering on.

We would recommend using a proper wallpaper steamer/stripper, these can be hired from as little as £6-£7 per day. Simply fill with water, turn it on and get boiling hot steam which will penetrate your wallpaper over quite a large area and really loosen the paste. Most painter and decorators would recommend these and will used them themselves as they are quicker, easier and leave a much better surface. Cleaning up before the decorators arrive is also easier as the wallpaper tends to come of in large patches rather than strips. So there you go, sounds pretty easy doesn’t it. If you don’t fancy doing this yourself then No1 Builders are more than happy to do it for you. The cost of this depends on the size of the room and the condition of the wallpaper in place, but don’t worry, we’ll give you the best painting and decorating price we can.

Plastering
While we choose not to offer a complete plastering service, we are willing to save you money by patch plastering any holes, dents of blemishes in your walls before painting or decorating, saving you money by not having to bring in unnecessary specialist contractors.

Tiling
We offer a complete tiling service, so if you are looking to decorate your Kitchen or Bathroom why not upgrade your tiling at the same time. We can offer a ‘labour-only’ price and use your materials or we can build our price around sourcing and supplying the tiles for you – whichever is easiest.

What is a Dormer Conversion?
Do you really want to maximise your space? Add a Dormer! This is how we do it. The roof is removed at the rear of the house and a structure is built outside of the roofline. Ceiling height is achieved over a much larger area than is possible with a `roof light` conversion.
Most dormer conversions create enough space for two rooms, either two bedrooms or a bedroom and bathroom/en-suite. The shape of dormers can vary, depending on the available height and pitch (angle) of the roof. Where height is limited, a flat roof design is normally utilised. Where height is not such a limiting factor, a pitch/crown style dormer roof can be used instead. Either way you can experience some fantastic results.

Roof Light Conversions.
Have you considered what is probably the cheapest and quickest type of loft conversion? With a roof light conversion only the existing roof space is used and there are no modifications made to the exterior shape of the roof.
